Not sure what your normal average mileage is usually, but my general rule is as follows: as soon as you can run 3.1 comfortably you will start to really enjoy running. Once you can run a 6 miler you'll be addicted.

And just for the record, if it ever 'gets easier' then you aren't trying hard enough. It's the pain, the fatigue, and giving 100% that makes it worth it. You'll learn to love the pain and exertion. You are going to LOVE it here.
